Create a negative effect by inverting all colors

Overview

The Invert Colors node flips all color values in an image, creating a photographic negative effect. Black becomes white, red becomes cyan, and all colors shift to their opposite on the color wheel.

Usage Tips

• Use for artistic negative effects
• Invert edge detection output for dark lines on light backgrounds
• Double invert returns to original (useful for masking workflows)
• Works on both color and grayscale images

Common Pairings

• Edge Detect - Invert edges for printable line art
• Merge - Blend inverted and original for unique effects

Gotchas

• Inverting preserves transparency (alpha channel unchanged)
• Colors may look unnatural on photos - better for graphics/effects
• Repeatedly inverting in a chain adds no value beyond two inversions
