Invert Colors
Create a negative effect by inverting all colors
Overview
The Invert Colors node flips all color values in an image, creating a photographic negative effect. Black becomes white, red becomes cyan, and all colors shift to their opposite on the color wheel.
Usage Tips
- Use for artistic negative effects
- Invert edge detection output for dark lines on light backgrounds
- Double invert returns to original (useful for masking workflows)
- Works on both color and grayscale images
Common Pairings
- Edge Detect - Invert edges for printable line art
- Merge - Blend inverted and original for unique effects
- Adjust BCG - Fine-tune inverted image contrast
Gotchas
- Inverting preserves transparency (alpha channel unchanged)
- Colors may look unnatural on photos - better for graphics/effects
- Repeatedly inverting in a chain adds no value beyond two inversions
